Formaula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix 2024 summary

Formula 1 2024 season starts with the first race, Bahrain Grand Prix. 

Everyone started with soft (C3) tyres.

Max Verstappen won the season’s first race, but I want to talk about Carlos Sainz first.

Ferrari drivers were just behind the Red Bulls(far behind Max). Carlos had a tricky start, but after some amazing overtakes he finished P3.

Charles did not have a great start and was overtaken by George. He was facing some issues with the breaking specifically in turn 10, not only did he but some other drivers were as well. By the end of the race, his car stabilized and he finished P4 by overtaking George.

Max Verstappen won the race by 22 seconds, no one expected him to win by this margin. For the second pit stop, most of the team went for hard(C1). Red Bull played it boldly by going for soft(C3) when 20 laps were left.

Sergio Perez finished P2 but didn’t have the best start. During the race's initial stages, he fought for P2 with George, Charles and Carloz. In a few laps, he came to the top.

McLaren, Lando and Oscar finished P6 and P8. They have a race pace of somewhere around Mercedes. In a couple of races, we’ll see what upgrades they come up with.

George and Lewis came P5 and P7. Mercedes didn’t expect where they had anticipated. During the race, George was facing some battery issues.

Aston Martin starts the season where they ended the previous season. They finished P9 and P10 for Alonso and Stroll. Good for them as they both finished in the points. They will need some upgrades which can help them to push forward.

Sauber finished P11 and P19 for Zhou and Valterri. Zhou had a good race with some nice overtakes. Valtteri faced some difficulties during the race, including a broken front wing and a slow pit stop.

RB finished P13 and P14 with Daniel and Yuki. They didn’t finish the race on a good end. The team ordered to swap the driver, and Yuki was ordered to give P13 to Daniel so that he could try to overtake Kevin Magnussen.

Haas finished P12 and P16 with Kevin and Nico, better than they had expected. If Nico could have avoided the turn 1 incident maybe he could have finished in the points.

Williams finished P15 and P20 with Alex and Logan. Alex was facing some issues with his steering while changing the settings. Williams has upgraded the steering wheel. Logan parked the car in turn 1 for a while but rejoined the race.

And last Alpine finished P17 and P18 with Ocon and Gasly. They were just completing the 57 laps, and were not fighting any overtakes by other drivers. Hopefully, they will come up with some upgrades that can bring them up in the race.

Some other facts.

Nobody used the medium(C2) tyres during the race.

Every driver on the grid completed the grand prix of the season.

The drivers seem to be spread evenly team-wise. First is Red Bull, then Ferrari, ahead of McLaren and Mercedes. Then Aston Martin ahead of Sauber, if Valtteri had not been involved in the turn 1 incident he could have finished better. And then Haas is ahead of RB and Williams. And Alpine at the tail end.

Overall it was a good race. Few nice overtakes.

After a few races, we'll be able to figure out the grid position of drivers and teams.
